The Sixth Patriarch, Master Huineng, taught that by upholding and reciting the Diamond Prajna Paramita Sutra, one can realize one’s true nature. Rooted in this teaching, the Great Vehicle Diamond Prajna Paramita Repentance Rite—commonly known as the Diamond Repentance—is a traditional Buddhist ceremony that guides practitioners in repentance and inner purification through prajna wisdom.

During the ceremony, participants cultivate a sincere and pure mind, repenting of karmic offenses and obstacles accumulated over time. Through the contemplative power of the Diamond Prajna Paramita Sutra, prajna wisdom is invoked—clear, unwavering, and indestructible like a diamond—to break through delusion, lessen afflictions, and illuminate our inherent buddha nature.
Held in a pure and solemn monastery before the Buddhas, the Diamond Repentance invites participants to bow in reverence, confess past karma, and make wholesome vows. The merit generated is dedicated to the cultivation of blessings and wisdom, the removal of karmic obstacles, peace and harmony in the world, and the well-being of all beings throughout the Dharma realm.

This ceremony is open to all who wish to deepen their practice, cultivate clarity and compassion, and realize the wisdom revealed in the Diamond Prajna Paramita Sutra.
