The Ullambana Ceremony

The Ullambana Ceremony is a traditional Buddhist ceremony held in the seventh lunar month to honor and repay the kindness of our ancestors and parents from this and past lives. The term “Ullambana” comes from Sanskrit and means "deliverance from suffering," reflecting the compassionate intention to relieve beings from the torments of the wretched realms.
During the ceremony, devotees make offerings to the Three Jewels—Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha—and perform acts of merit such as chanting sutras, offering food, and dedicating blessings to the deceased and to all sentient beings.
The ceremony serves not only to liberate beings from suffering, but also to express filial piety, gratitude, and compassion. It reminds us of the importance of honoring our roots and cultivating kindness in our daily lives.
