L2(B)E Class - Gautam

My time at the monastery has been impactful, meaningful, and gradually transformative. Through the weekly lectures and guided meditations, I was introduced to the core principles of Buddhism in a way that felt both clear and deeply accessible. While I had practiced meditation informally through a personal practice, I found the guidance provided by the practitioners at Middle Land helped me significantly deepen my practice. For me and my fellow students, with different backgrounds, goals, and experience, the instructors came with clarity, gentleness, and insight.

The atmosphere is one of genuine warmth and generosity. In the afternoon there is a warm and delicious meal, prepared with love, as well as plenty of texts on Buddhism made available to visitors for free. That same spirit permeates the larger community here. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed into a diverse and thoughtful group of fellow students, each seeking to live more mindfully and meaningfully.

Beyond regular teachings, the monastery also hosts seasonal celebrations and social gatherings, which have helped to strengthen the bonds between us. These moments of joy and connection complement the quieter aspects of practice and remind us that community is central to the path.

One of the most impactful aspects of my experience has been the availability of the head abbess for one-on-one discussions. Her presence and insight have helped me navigate personal questions with compassion and clarity.

Altogether, the regular practice, meaningful community, and opportunities for service have offered me a framework to support my well-being. My mental health has improved, and I’ve found a renewed sense of direction and calm. I’m deeply grateful.
